We are currently working on bringing you Check & Challenge for a range of other subjects, please contact us on sbl.info@theaccessgroup.com to get more detail on when your subject will be created.
Where other resources focus on students answering question after question, our unique independent assessment takes it to the next level. It’s more like giving every student a personal academic coach to help them navigate the answers and provide scaffolded support. It’s suitable for students of all abilities and covers the full 1-9 range. Perfect for distance learning as students get instant feedback on how well they did, leading onto that all important intrinsic motivation – fuelling them on to beat their previous score. While all the time, you can see HOW they are answering and not just what they are answering.
There are many assessment tools out there to help students practise answering multiple choice questions, but the quality can be highly variable. The GCSEPod Check & Challenge system utilises questions written by subject experts, with incorrect options specifically designed around common mistakes and misconceptions students often display in the course of the exam.
Key to the system is the feedback students receive. When answering a question incorrectly, they will be shown a brief explanation of why they were wrong. We wanted a system that would replicate the type of support a student might receive from a personal coach or home tutor which is why students also receive feedback when they are correct.
“What struck me most about the structure and coverage of the question sets is that even if a student doesn’t feel confident before they start a pod/test, by doing the questions and interrogating each option there is the opportunity to learn so much and take their understanding of a literature text to a greater depth.”
“Through both the correct and incorrect answer options and then their accompanying justifications, students can learn a lot about the text. There is great advantage in getting things wrong here!”
“Students get an insightful explanation about how an option is correct, and conversely how an option is wrong or – in some cases – ‘less right’ than others. This means that students are building up layer on layer of understanding of a literature text as they go through the pod/test.”
“Key quotes are used to either trigger a question or may appear in answer options, furthering students’ exposure to and revision of the important extracts from a literature text.”
“Crucially, everything is put into context – literary techniques/terminology and their effects, writer’s methods, themes, characterization, as well as the context of the text!”
